BEAUTIFUL (THE BOLD AND THE...)

It was suddenly like being part of The Bold And The Beautiful. Let’s tell the plot.

On Friday night the official host Sarahy and the charming Liliana leave for a trip to Morocco, leaving at home the 3 couch surfers (the atypical Italian, the Canadian Othello and the unusual suspect German girl), their 2 flatmates (the silent guy and the miracle girl) and a friend of theirs (the regular week-end guest). It’s Friday but only the atypical Italian wants to party, while everybody else is –or pretends to be- too tired to go out. It gets late, no more metro trains, so even the atypical Italian stays at home working on his laptop and then it’s time to re-transform the dining room into a mini-hostel room. The unusual suspect German girl, at her last night in Madrid, is told to use the charming Liliana’s empty bed to sleep more comfortable, while the other 2 couch surfers are supposed to sleep in the dining room as for the previous nights. But an extra mattress in the bedroom where the silent guy and the unusual suspect German girl are going to sleep makes confusion step in: the Canadian Othello, chilling out laying right on that mattress, kindly asks everybody if the unusual suspect German girl and he should better sleep in the dining room since they want to wake up earlier than everybody else. Everybody kindly answer it’s no problem and so the miracle girl goes to bed in her room together with the regular week-end guest (who takes the official host Sarahy’s empty bed), the silent guy and the unusual suspect German girl stay in the extra-mattress bedroom, the atypical Italian goes in the dining room and the Canadian Othello mysteriously says he will remain on the extra mattress.
Lights off.
Lights on for a couple of minutes while the silent boy goes elsewhere with his computer and then lights off again.
In the morning, the atypical Italian is the first to get up, seeing that the silent boy slept then in the miracle girl’s room. The other 2 couch surfers wake up one hour later, the unusual suspect German girl leaves to another city and the Canadian Othello goes out. Everything seems quiet and relaxed, but the miracle girl suddenly tells the atypical Italian the couch surfers must leave in 4 hours. Official version: the miracle girl and the other Mexicans are invited out of town for a couple of days by a friend of theirs.
The Canadian Othello gets a phone call and manages to come back as soon as possible, while in the meantime the truth is told to the atypical Italian: the unusual suspect German girl and the Canadian Othello asked for privacy during the night and the silent boy was asked/forced to leave his room. It was no problem for him, but slightly later he went elsewhere the miracle girl woke up and on her road to the toilet she found the sex-crime scene in front of her eyes, with the unusual suspect German girl reportedly doing it “froggy style”, and this was enough to make her decide for a mass execution.

This is the story. It’s more less 10 PM and I am at another Couch Surfer’s place. Luckily I had him as a plan B contact for Madrid (thanks Marcelo), otherwise I would have been forced to look for a hostel or something. Before going out the Mexicans told me I could stay if I wanted, just pretending to leave with the Canadian Othello for the first 10 minutes to come then back as soon as possible. But in front of such a mess and with already another host kindly waiting for me, I decided to get the fuck out. No disrespect to anybody, I don’t care who’s right and who’s wrong, I just don’t want to act for a soap opera without getting paid.

FINE, THANKS / BENE, GRAZIE

I’m alive, I’m alive, don’t worry. Fever was brilliantly defeated and this is my third day in Madrid, Spain. In the early beginning it wasn’t planned, but to add 300km more to my trip turned then out as a good idea, and the Spanish capital is no doubt worth a visit.

My "emergency call" via Couch Surfing was accepted by some Mexicans as I said, and I can definitely say I have been lucky. Together with me came other 2 couch surfers, Emanuel from Canada and Katja from Germany, and our Mexican hosts are Sarahy, Liliana, Rosi and Roberto. Great house, everybody is easy going, it’s like being at a mini-hostel.
It’s fun to see that anytime I meet new people, they all think I am going to be a stereotyped Italian: I’m supposed to love cooking, to love football, to speak with a marked accent, etc. Then I show almost no patience in the kitchen, my favourite sport is basketball and I don’t speak like Marlon Brando in the Godfather. Everybody suddenly ends disoriented.

It’s the first time I feel tired since my journey started. But it’s Friday night and you just can’s stop. Time to go out and party, and tomorrow I am doing as much as possible to visit the city as a perfect tourist…I still don’t have a clear idea of what Madrid is.
But I am enjoying it.
